Which devices run Stonekept

Everything Stonekept does with your recordings happens on your own device: transcription, memory extraction, and chat. That takes real hardware, so support comes down to memory and the chip. The app detects your exact device and assigns the right model automatically; there is nothing to configure.

The two models

Every device runs one of two on-device AI models. Stonekept Small (about a 1 GB download) is fast on modest hardware and extracts the same five memory types as its bigger sibling: facts, decisions, tasks, preferences, and reasoning. Stonekept Large (about 2.1 GB) has more capacity, so it writes richer summaries and catches subtler details, especially in long or dense conversations. Capture and playback work the same everywhere.

GPU or CPU: why it matters

Turning an hour of conversation into memories is heavy AI work. On devices where the AI runs on the graphics chip (GPU), a long recording becomes memories several times faster than on the CPU. Every supported iPhone, iPad, and Mac runs the AI on Apple's GPU. On Android it depends on the chip inside, so the Android chart below shows which engine each family gets and what that feels like day to day.

Mac

Macs are Stonekept's most capable devices: 16 GB and 32 GB machines run larger desktop model tiers than any phone, and a paired Mac can process recordings for a phone. See how it works for the desktop tiers.

Android

The Android app is in private testing. It needs a 64-bit phone with 6 GB of memory or more running Android 12 or newer. Because Android chips vary far more than Apple's, the app measures your phone's real AI speed on first run and picks the engine and model from that measurement, never from the spec sheet. Phones with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or newer chip run the AI on the Adreno GPU; everything else runs it on the CPU.

What "slow processing" honestly means

Recording, playback, and browsing are instant on every supported phone. The slow part is turning a recording into memories: on a CPU-tier phone, a 20-minute conversation can take roughly 30–45 minutes of on-screen processing. We measured that on a 2024 Pixel as well as a 2021 Galaxy: this work needs a fast graphics chip, not just a recent CPU. Your words never leave the phone, but you will feel the wait.

The way around it is the Sync plan: pair a Mac and it takes over the heavy processing. The phone hands off the recording end-to-end encrypted, the desktop turns it into memories in a few minutes, and everything syncs back to your pocket. See pricing.
