Cost analysis · verified July 2026

Everyone meters your minutes. Stonekept meters bytes.

Voice-AI apps charge by the minute, by the recording, or by the seat, because your audio runs on their servers. Stonekept runs capture, transcription, and memory extraction on the device you already own, so a recording costs nothing to make. Here is the whole field, priced per 30-minute meeting.

What a 30-minute recording costs you on Stonekept. Backing it up runs about an eighth of a cent a year.

Cost per 30-minute meeting

Each product's main individual paid tier. Plans that include unlimited recording are shown at two meetings a workday, about 40 a month, so they line up against the capped plans. Their real cost per meeting only falls further as you record more.

Scale runs $0 to $5 per 30-minute meeting; each bar is labeled with its exact cost. Sonix is pay-as-you-go, the rest are monthly subscriptions. Several plans are cheaper billed annually (Otter, Plaud and Voicenotes Pro drop to about $0.21, Notta to $0.14).

A note on scope. This ranks one axis: what it costs to record and turn 30 minutes of audio into usable output. Feature sets are not equal. Several of these tools add CRM sync, team analytics, or sales coaching that Stonekept does not, and Stonekept adds an on-device knowledge graph, full offline use, and no account to sign up for that they do not. Read this as the price of the core loop, capture to memory, and not a full feature verdict.
The field charges 15 to 75 cents for a 30-minute meeting, and Sonix wants five dollars. Stonekept charges nothing to make the recording and about an eighth of a cent a year to keep it.

The free tier

How many recordings you actually get for free

Free tiers look generous until you read the unit. Several give you a fixed handful for the entire life of the account, not per month, and one caps a single recording so short that a real meeting will not fit.

Unlimited, free, forever
Stonekept
On-device, no account, no cap. The whole product on one phone.
Superwhisper
Also unlimited on-device, but dictation only. No memory, no backup.
Apple Voice Memos
Unlimited and free on your iPhone, but a recorder with a transcript, not a memory system.
A handful, every month
10
Otter.ai
300 min/mo, 30-min cap per call, keeps only your last 25.
10
Plaud
300 min/mo, and you buy the $159 device first.
5
Fathom
Records unlimited, but only five AI summaries a month.
40
Omi
The most generous of the metered set: ~1,200 free cloud minutes a month, then on-device only.
3
Voicenotes
Three long-form meetings a month, plus 100 transcription minutes a week.
A handful, then it stops (lifetime)
25
Granola
Roughly 25 notes for the life of the account, then read-only.
10
tl;dv
10 AI notes total, ever. After that only the first 10 minutes are summarized.
5
Fellow
5 AI recordings for the life of the account.
Zero, or gone
0
Notta
A single recording is capped at 3 minutes, so a 30-min meeting will not fit.
0
Cleft
Free caps a single recording at five minutes.
0
AudioPen
Free caps a note at three minutes, 10 total for life.
0
Reflect
No free tier, a 14-day trial only.
gate
Bee
AI features need $19/mo after a 14-day trial.
RIP
Limitless / Rewind
Discontinued after Meta’s acquisition, no new sign-ups.

The math behind $0

Why it costs Stonekept almost nothing

Audio is the only line item with a price, and it is tiny. The memories, transcripts, and knowledge graph are a rounding error next to the audio itself.

$0
To make a recording. Capture, transcription, and memory extraction all run on your device.
~$0.0001
Per month to back up a 30-minute meeting. About an eighth of a cent to keep it a whole year.
14.4 MB
Per hour of stored audio (Opus mono, 32 kbps). A 30-minute meeting is 7.2 MB.
6,944
Half-hour meetings that fit in a 50 GB backup. A 100 GB plan holds about 13,888.

Stored audio is Opus mono at 32 kbps, now encoded at a 48 kHz sample rate after a recent quality fix that made it crisper at no extra size. Cloudflare R2 storage runs $0.015 per gigabyte-month with free downloads, so cost tracks bytes, and bytes are cheap. There is no monthly cap: local capture is unlimited on every tier, and cloud backup is bound only by the size of your bucket.

"Unlimited" plans are converted to a per-meeting figure at 40 meetings a month (two per workday) so they compare to the metered plans; record more and their per-meeting cost drops. Stonekept's figure is what you pay; its cost to serve is about $0.0001 a month in storage. Mem (*) is a text second-brain with no audio recorder, so its per-meeting figure is notional.

How we got these numbers. Twenty-one competitors, each researched against its official 2026 pricing page and then re-checked by an independent second pass, in July 2026. Prices are current US individual or prosumer tiers and change often; wearable prices exclude the one-time device cost except where noted. Stonekept's figures come from the shipping app code (Opus 32 kbps at 48 kHz) and current Cloudflare R2 rates. Limitless and Rewind were both discontinued after Meta’s December 2025 acquisition, and are left off the chart. This ranks cost only; feature sets differ by product, so a lower bar is not automatically the better tool for your job.
